Even if you aren’t big into fitness and nutrition, chances are you have heard of detoxing. The most popular ones are liquid detoxes and one-food detoxes that keep you hungry and usually make you give up before finishing. Detoxes shouldn’t be torture (yes, you can eat REAL FOOD), but they are really important. Below I talk about three important reasons why you should be detoxing.

1. We are surrounded by pollutants Every day, we are surrounded by pollutants in the air we breathe and in the environment we live in. You don’t need to be living in the inner city or by an industrial complex to be exposed by pollutants. Due to exhaust in the air, pollutants in our water, pesticides in our foods and even unwanted chemicals found in cleaning products, we are breathing and touching pollutants everyday. These toxins and chemicals in our body can cause cancers of all sorts, which is why it is important to shift our diet through a well-designed detox regimen to help rid us of some of these chemicals.

2. We live in a high-stress environment Chronic stress often goes unnoticed. If you are someone who rarely gives him or herself time to rest throughout the day or if you have a constantly unfinished to-do list, the overload of stress hormones in your body can cause cell damage through oxidation, resulting in premature aging, weight gain, and disease. Adopting a health regimen that focuses not only on what you eat but lifestyle as well, is key to living a long and healthy life. This process can be kickstarted with an effective detox program.

3. Overweight and obesity can lead to disease If you are looking to detox, chances are you also have weight goals in mind. That acceptance of a problem is the first step to success. Being overweight or obese, however, goes way beyond how you look, it also has a negative effect on your organs and tissue, all the way on the cellular level. Being overweight or obese can lead to diabetes, heart disease, and a range of other health problems that can negatively affect your lifestyle. Detox programs shouldn’t be treated as short-term miracle programs.

Effective detox programs should be the beginning of a lifestyle change. — After years of experience in the field of nutrition, fitness and weight loss, I know what works and what doesn’t work. I know that some mainstream all-liquid diets may turn you off to diets all at once. It is because of this that I have written “Weekend Detox Diet: A Step-by-Step Guide” an e-book that will soon be available for free download.
